GLWP Graduates

We are proud of all these athletes/coaches and would like to feature them permanently on the web site. If you would like an athlete/coach to be featured in this section, please send a digital photo, in or out of the pool, and a paragraph description of the accomplishments of the athlete/coach.

These players/coaches are great role models for our younger players and help put our club in the upper tier of water polo clubs nationally.

Alison Gregorka Alison Gregorka As a member of the US Junior National Team, Alison played in the 2005 Junior World Championships in Perth, Australia, winning gold; the 2004 Junior Pan-American Games, winning gold; and the 2003 Junior World Championships in Calgary, Alberta, winning silver. She was named MVP at the 2004 Speedo Top 40 Tournament. Alison is currently a member of the Stanford Women's Water Polo teams ('07) and the US National Team.
Greg Jenkins Greg Jenkins Greg Jenkins spent several years playing with Great Lakes Water Polo club and it was a pivotal off-season home for him. He played with Great Lakes at four Junior Olympic tournaments and he also attended a national selection camp at Stanford as a member of the Midwest Zone team.

At Pioneer High School Greg was a two time state champion, winning both his junior and senior seasons. Since graduation he has played four years at Michigan State University earning many accolades. Most recently as a team captain he was named 2006 1st team All Big Ten and 2006 2nd team at the CWPA national tournament en route to a CWPA National Championship. Other accomplishments include 2003 and 2004 third team All Big Ten, 2005 1st team All Big Ten and Big Ten Champion, 2005 first team all CWPA, and 2005 national runner up at the CWPA tournament. At MSU he led the season in steals and assists in consecutive years and was 2004 offensive player of the year.  Greg prides himself on sportsmanship, play and attitude which are all fundamentals learned during his years at Great Lakes.
Scott Nelson Scott Nelson Scott has been a member of Great Lakes Water Polo since 1999. Scott participated in 5 Junior Olympics for the Club and he also represented the club on the Midwest Zone Team for 2 seasons competing in two National Age Group Championships. Scott was selected to try out for the National Development Team four times.

In high school, Scott competed in 4 state championship series and his team came in second his junior year. Scott was selected as 2nd Team All-State and third team All-American as a goalie in his junior year and 3rd team All-State his senior year as a field player.

Scott is studying business at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. In the 2005 season he was 5th in scoring and assists for the CLU Kingsman.
Bill Richardson Bill Richardson Pioneer Class "2005"

Bill started playing water polo as a 14 year old in 1999. He competed on four Junior Olympic teams for GLWP, including the 2002 16u team that placed 10th in the country. He was a member of Ann Arbor Pioneer's varsity team from 2001-2003, winning gold, silver and bronze medals at the State Championships. Bill was awarded 3rd team All-State his senior year.

As a two time member of the Midwest Zone Team, Bill was invited to two National Youth Team Selection Camps. Bill also attended the USA Water Polo National Development Camp for 2 meter players at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Bill is studying History at The George Washington University, in Washington D.C. where his plays 2 meter defense for the Colonial's varsity team.
John Stover John Stover As a player and then as a coach, John has been a member of Great Lakes Water Polo since 1997. At Pioneer High School, John was a member of three state championship teams, 1998, 1999 and 2001. He was selected Most Valuable Player in the State Championship series three times. An experienced swimmer also, John was the Michigan State Champion in the 50 yard freestyle in 2002.

After high school, John competed for the Princeton Tigers. In 2005, John received All-America honors for the third time in his career when the American Water Polo Coaches Association named him an honorable mention All-American. John is the all-time leading scorer in Princeton men's water polo history at 254 career goals.
Victor Wakefield Victor Wakefield Victor Wakefield began playing water polo as a freshman in high school. He played on club teams in Ann Arbor for four years (Great Lakes Water Polo Club for two) and on the Midwest Zone team for three years. He went on to co-captain his high school team and earn honors in both water polo and swimming. He was a two-time high school All-America pick in swimming and a first-team all-state and honorable mention All-America at NAGs in water polo. Victor led Pioneer to state championships in both sports. He is presently a rising senior playing for the Princeton Tigers. Going into his 4th year of collegiate waterpolo, Victor was part of the 2002 Princeton team that played in the NCAA's Final Four.
