Programs
Great Lakes Water Polo (GLWP) regularly offers Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall programs at University of Michigan's Canham Natatorium. High Schoolers generally meet 3 times a week for practice; Age Groupers (younger than high school) generally meet 2 times a week. Whenever possible, GLWP signs up for scrimmages - these are listed on the News section of the home page; flyers are also handed out to athletes.
Program Information
High School Program
While the GLWP High School programs are co-recreational, most of our
athletes play on High School water polo and swim teams. So during these
seasons, the GLWP High School programs are predominantly girls (winter
session) or boys (spring session). Sundays are a "Drop-In" day;
Attendees on Sundays will include both regular session participants and
also those who signed up for only the Sunday Drop-In program. The
summer program generally runs Mondays through Thursdays; times
depending on coach and pool availability.
Age Group Program
Age Groupers are athletes younger than high school age, although in
our program they are not actually subdivided by age groups. The Age
Group sessions meet winter, spring and fall on Wednesday evenings and
Sunday afternoons and are co-recreational. The Age Group summer program
timing changes depending on coach and pool availability.
Clinics
GLWP also sponsors clinics throughout the year. These will be posted on the website home page, and on the sign up page.
Tournaments and Travel
Note that players may also choose to participate in tournaments in which our club participates. To get good quality competition to keep our athletes in good form, we participate in tournaments in Chicago and elsewhere. We endeavor to keep costs down by using parent volunteer drivers and "four to a room" sleeping arrangements. Tournament and travel information will be posted on the home page.
